PLTW/STEAM at Bryant 2019!

We have started a new semester of Project Lead The Way STEAM classes at Bryant Elementary! Pattengill Elementary has PLTW classes the 1st semester of the school year, and then PLTW and Mrs. Dawson move to Bryant for the second semester of the school year. Kindergarten and Young 5s have been working on their engineering skills, while 1st and 2nd Grade classes have started their Computer Science unit. Check out more details in the current PLTW newsletter below!

We have also been reading interesting and exciting literature in our PLTW classes! Kindergarten classes have read fun rhyming versions of The 3 Little Pigs and Jack and the Beanstalk, and then created engineering projects based on those books. First grade is currently reading this same version of Jack and the Beanstalk in order to animate this story in the computer programming app, Scratch, Jr. In second grade we read the children's book Hidden Figures: The True Story of Four Black Women and the Space Race by Margot Lee Shetterly (with Winifred Conkling), Illustrated by Laura Freeman.  We were so inspired by these remarkable women and their amazing contributions to computer science, aviation, and space exploration! You can read a sample of it by clicking on the link below:

Also, if you have any empty cracker or cereal boxes, (or any box around that size and shape), that you are about to recycle, would you mind sending them in to me? We will use them for a light box project in first grade in our next unit. Thank you!
